Install Windows NT 3.1 & 3.5
This guide is an detailed instruction on how to apply the Intel Pentium II (2) and higher ''Patch'':
Step 1: Boot with an DOS Bootdisk
Step 2: Type: fdisk
Step 3: Press 1 and Enter
Step 4: Press Y
Step 5: Press ESCAPE (ESC)
Step 6: Reboot with DOS 5 bootdisk
Step 7: Type FORMAT C: /u and press ENTER
Step 8: Reboot with the Windows 98 SE Bootdisk (it has smartdrv and cd-drivers)
Step 9: Enable smartdrv c and lock c:
Step 10: Go to the E:/i386 folder and type WINNT --for NT 3.5, # 756 and above, you can skip creation of the bootfloppy's by WINNT /b)-- and press ENTER
Step 11: Setup asks you for the location of the sources files, accept by Pressing ENTER --If you have enabled winnt /b skip to Number 13--
Step 12: Setup asks you now for 1 or 3 bootdisks, supply each one at the time, and remember the order. --When it asks for 3 dics, it creates the 3th disk first)--
Step 13: Setup now copy's the files to the harddrive and after it completes, it asks you to put in the first disk and then reboot.
Step 14: Now follow all the setup instructions appearing on the screen until you must restart, but when it asks to restart, put the Windows 98 Bootfloppy in it.
Step 15: Boot from the floppy and after it loads, type EDIT
Step 16: Go to FILE --> OPEN --You maybe need to use ALT+F and arrow keys-- and go to the C:/WINNT/System32 directory.
Step 17: Open INITIAL.INF
Step 18: Change: [ProcessorVar] STF_PROCESSOR = "" ? $(!LIBHANDLE) GetProcessor to [ProcessorVar] STF_PROCESSOR = $(ProcessorID_I586)
Step 19: Save the file.
Step 20: Repeat steps 17 to 19 again for SETUP.INF
Step 21: Now exit EDIT and remove the floppy and reboot.
Step 22: Windows will now load and will not prompt you with an STOP error, but ask you for your Name and Company
